DJ Vega Benetton Fridays at 5pm EST

DJ's, Musician / Bands, Uncategorized 05 Oct 16 0

Catch DJ Vega Benetton every Friday at 5pm EST for Raw Rhythm Radio.

Vega Benetton is a DJ/Producer who undeniably instills a raw and uncompromised sound back into music.  As a native New Yorker, Vega consistently reminds us of the elements that truly make a solid DJ: scratching, mixing, blending and taking the crowd to the pinnacle of their overall musical experience.  Growing up,  despite the fact that he lacked “proper” DJ equipment, Vega used his creative genius to emulate the DJs he admired. “I didn’t have turn tables at the time so I used old stereo components and pieced them together and created mix tapes using the play and pause buttons. I still remember the first time I heard Pete Rock and CL Smooth’s ‘Reminisce’…I was a fan at that point (and still am), but after hearing that record, I knew this was for me.”

It was at St. John’s University where he first debuted his skills, spinning at various campus events, local hot spots and hosting his own college radio mix show on WSJU Radio. Since then he has performed on multiple radio shows, with much larger audiences, that have all helped him to build a solid on air reputation.  Vega has made several appearances on stations like 89.9 FM with Timm See and Sucio Smash (The Stretch & Bobitto Show), Lisa Evers’ “Street Soldiers” on Hot 97.1 FM, and multiple shows on Sirius Satellite Radio.  Currently Vega can be heard on his own weekly show called “The Pre-Game Show” on PNCRadio.fm where he spins the best in Hip-Hop & R&B and plays host to a slue of guest artists, DJs, taste makers and trend setters.

Early on in his career, Vega made his first television debut on BET’s legendary Hip-Hop video show, “Rap City“, and gave their audience their first taste of his dedication to music along with his skills on the turntables. Ever since the airing of  “Rap City“, Vega has been seen DJ’ing  in a variety of New York City hot spots such as Jay Z’s 40/40 Club, Santos Party House, Club Touch, Katra, Pranna, Studio 21, Lexicon, Pianos, Red Rooster and Corner Social along with several others. He has shared the stage with legendary DJs Marley Marl, DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Q-Tip and has a celebrity clientele that ranges from Derek Jeter and Justin Bieber to Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.  Vega had the honor of being the first DJ to perform live before the United Nations General Assembly, and the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, and was invited the very next year to spin for the same event, this time for the new Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon. Vega continued to expand his international and philanthropic reach overseas while on tour both in Europe and the Middle East.  He was also an intricate part of a humanitarian effort where he traveled to Africa (South Africa, Namibia) several times to assist in providing relief to designated HIV/AIDs & poverty stricken communities.

Producing mixtapes fast became a way for Vega to hone his DJ and production skills all at the same time.  Some of his most noteworthy mixtapes featured several collaborative efforts with the legendary DJ Premier while others included guest stars: Redman, Smif-N-Wessun, Fab 5 Freddy, and Common.  These mix tapes have landed Vega in Hip-Hop publications such as The Source, XXL, Scratch, Urban Ink, Don Diva and Complex Magazine.  More recently, Vega has assumed the role of Executive Producer for the “PNC Radio Mixtape Series” which highlights multiple PNC Radio DJs alongside a featured artist.

Vega has also spent the last few years developing into a multifaceted producer working with artists such as M-1 of Dead Prez, Smif-N-Wessun, Havoc (Mobb Deep), Torae, KRS-1, Skyzoo and more.

Vega’s creative endeavors allowed him to also be a creative and inspirational part of the Student Union clothing line; an upstart men’s apparel company based out of Harlem, NYC.

“Quality is always the most important thing.  I want to make sure that the product will stand the test of time. If I can do that, then it’ll stay in your collection forever and I’ve effectively done my job.” -Vega Benetton

I’m a strong believer that timing is everything. After the crazy week in the United States with racial tensions in Charlotte, NC and Tulsa, Ok, T.I. dropped a EP and video last Friday. With just a few hours left before last night’s Presidential Debate with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, Common decided to drop this new single. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Also, keep it locked to CommishRadio.com to hear this song.

T.I. Drops new EP and Video

New Videos 24 Sep 16 0

by DJ Commish

Last week, I spent most of the weekend listening to the Usher “Hard II Love” album during my commute in between parties. This week, it seems like I’ll have a very different sound, tone and mood. T.I. dropped his newest E.P. called “Us Or Else” and from the looks of the video, you’ll get the idea where he’s going with this project quickly. Oddly enough, the album dropping today couldn’t be better timing with everything that has been going on in the U.S. just this week.

“Us Or Else” is available exclusively on Tidal as of now. If you wanted to know where all of the rappers are since they “have a voice”, check this out. Personally, I want to see exactly how many people will support it. He’s speaking the truth on this 6 track project that feature people like Quavo of Migos, Big K.R.I.T., Killer Mike, Meek Mill and more. It’s definitely worth a listen. This might be my newest truth album from hip-hop.

20 Years After 2Pac

Blog News, Musician / Bands 13 Sep 16 0

by DJ Commish

At Commish Radio, we try not to focus on negative things within hip-hop. There’s enough outlets that already do that. We’ll pass. You can go elsewhere for that.

However, today marks the 20 year anniversary of the passing of hip-hop icon, Tupac Shakur. We all know what happened on Sept. 7, 1996 and that he passed from the injuries on Sept. 13, 1996 but today, we want to reflect by listening to his music and his message. Stay tuned to CommishRadio.com as we will play a 2Pac song every hour for the rest of the day.

We’re looking forward to the movie “All Eyez on Me” coming soon. We’ll keep you posted on the release date.

Today, we celebrate the life of Eric “Eazy-E” Wright. Eazy would grow up to partner with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube to be the founders of N.W.A., have a solo career, be knows as the Godfather of Gangsta Rap and start a label called Ruthless Records along with his manager Jerry Heller. The record label would produce albums from fellow N.W.A. artist MC Ren, Michele, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.

Don’t be surprised if you hear some Eazy-E on Commish Radio today. When you hear it, just turn it up! #RIPEazyE
